Amy and I joined our good friend Holley in Roxbury, New York (not the one on Long Island) where we enjoyed an evening of the music of Lynn Miles. As I wrote previously, Lynn is a remarkably talented Canadian singer and songwriter. She’s also an engaging entertainer, quick with a humorous quip between songs, and she was in perfect form on Saturday. My only disappointment was that she did not play any songs from her first two albums, focusing instead on her two most recent recordings and some songs from her upcoming album (to be released in September, I believe).
Like us, many of the people in the audience traveled to this little enclave on the western edge of the Catskill Mountains in order to see Lynn, who doesn’t make many U.S. appearances. But there was also a good part of the audience who hadn’t ever heard of her, but were looking for something to do on a Saturday night. Judging from the reaction in the intimate theater, everyone was enchanted by Lynn’s performance, and I have no doubt she made many new fans.
After the show, Holley took this picture of Lynn and me.
By the way, if you ever find yourself in Roxbury, you might want to stay at the funky Roxbury Motel. Not only does it have the coolest rooms I’ve ever seen, they also keep the place spotless, and make you really feel welcomed.
