You’ve seen his work if you’ve held a $2 bill. Or visited the U.S. Capital Building. Or likely if you’ve ever read a text book history of the United States. Historian David McCullough called his The Declaration of Independence “the most famous painting ever done by an American artist.” And while his career as a painter is interesting, it is far from the most interesting aspect of the life of John Trumbull.
I’ll be giving a talk about the life of this engaging American soldier, patriot, painter and diplomat (and I could add a few other nouns in there to describe him) at Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell, Vermont, on Sunday, October 13, at 1:00 p.m.
